Why We Are Here, (in bronze)
Edition of 22

"Why We Are Here, (in bronze)" is an intimate, bronze version of Ryan's original wood sculpture "Why We Are Here"—two blue beings embracing. The wood version was intended for Last Human Teachers, a sprawling sculpture show at La Citadelle in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France in summer of 2025, but stayed in the desert until Earth Canal, Ryan's November 2025 solo sculpture presentation at The Pit LA.

The night before all the sculptures/beings traveled to LA, Dana grabbed a chunk of hardened clay and went to work carving a new version of the lovers (with much juicier butts as she likes to note). We drilled a hole in the top to add a few flowers, a small candle, a secret note, because we all need as much slowed-down sweetness as we can get right now.

Our partner foundry in LA created this final version with a traditional patina and we couldn't love it more. Why We Are Here gives some of our best answers to the question we've all asked—relationship, belonging to each other, care, community, and creativity.

Please note: we are a small studio.  We are not machines. We do things by hand. We move with care. We work with a small foundry. We're putting a portion of the proceeds towards our friend Rocio's legal support. She's an asylum seeker from Equatorial Guinea and has been in ICE custody since July. You can learn more about Rocio's case here.
